Saudi Arabia to Host MotoGP
Dorna is always looking out for new and exciting locations for the MotoGP races. After KymiRim was put out of the picture due to geopolitical tensions, getting new tracks in the bag of MotoGP was supposed to be a far-fetched dream for many. But according to a recent update, a new track and a new location is about to be added to the next season’s roaster of MotoGP.
According to the recent updates, Saudi Arabia is going to be the latest addition to the tracklist of MotoGP. After agreeing to a deal with MotoGP organiser Dorna, Saudi Arabia moved a step closer to hosting a race in the global championship series for motorcycles.
Monday marked the “confirmation of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding expressing their shared aim to bring the world’s premier motorcycle racing series to the Kingdom,” according to a statement from Dorna Sports and the Saudi Motorsport Company.
The decision came after Saudi Arabia decided to build an international level track in the country. The track needs to be approved by FIA and FIM. The upcoming track can be in the ‘entertainment city’ Qiddiya. Qiddiya is a city near Riyadh and is being developed as the centre of entertainment for tourists.
Saudi Arabia has been a host of Dakar rallies and also Formula One Grand Prix race in the last year. Now, the country is taking up hosting MotoGP. With everything available in one country, Saudi Arabia can soon become the international hub of Motorsport.
