All About India SpeedFest 2022

The India Speedfest 2022, an autocross, motorcycle track day, and drag racing event organised by Team Northern Motorsports took place on March 13, 2022. The inaugural quarter-mile drag racing event was staged at the Buddh International Circuit, and it drew a large number of petrolheads from all around India. In his Ferrari 488GTB, Siddharth Chaturvedi took first place overall, followed by Evo India’s Sirish Chandran, who posted the second-fastest overall time as well as the quickest EV time. Achintya Mehrotra took first place in the solo race, followed by Karan Malik. AutoMarc Delhi, Lamborghini Delhi, Vredestein Tyres India, Aston Martin New Delhi, and Aurum Kawasaki all sponsored the event.

The solo race (a time attack style) attracted 69 participants, the drag race attracted 40, and the superbike track day attracted 30 riders. Not only were there competing cars and bikes but there were also over 200 automobile and superbike owners in attendance to watch the race.

Since this is the first time that EVs have been entered in professional racing in India, the inclusion and competitiveness of EVs in the competition has gotten a lot of attention.

Siddharth Chaturvedi, the overall champion said, “With the addition of EVs and all-wheel drive cars, the competition is always tough.”

The Director of Automarc, Himanshu Kukreja said, “The event was an awesome experience for us and the people who joined us for it. Thanks to all who managed to set this kind of stage for the event, and to all the coordinators and support staff. We hope to come back with another edition of India SpeedFest, in a bigger, better-planned way.”

Drag racing has always been a popular but specialised sport in the United States, with just a few big events performed on a regular basis. With such a strong start, it would be fascinating to see what Northern Motorsports has planned for future India Speedfest events.
