The brand’s bikes have won hundreds of races in various forms, both on and off the road, during its 120-year history. The truth is that Royal Enfield bikes have long been quite competitive in motorsport.

Hundreds of fans raced Royal Enfield motorbikes in India as privateers in numerous individual competitions. Drag racing and rallying are examples of this. There were, however, just a few efforts to race Royal Enfield motorcycles on a racetrack. Until now, the brand’s motorcycles weren’t particularly thought of as good choices for circuit racing.

With the debut of the GT Cup in 2021, Royal Enfield set out to reverse this attitude. Royal Enfield has made a comeback to motorsport with the GT Cup, claiming to have introduced a new racing style to the Indian scene: Retro Racing.

Royal Enfield’s GT Cup is the most eagerly anticipated circuit racing debut in India. It is a one-make series with many races performed throughout the season. The GT Cup is a grassroots motorsport event in the United States that promotes motorcycle racing.

The GT Cup series was inspired by the purist racing culture of the 1960s, according to Royal Enfield. It entails racing a motorbike that has a vintage feel to it and provides the rider with the feeling of racing a historic motorcycle.

The inaugural season included up-and-coming motorbike racers. The sole requirement for participating in the Royal Enfield GT Cup was that the rider has previously competed in any circuit race event. Alternatively, the rider must possess a certificate of instruction from any Indian motorcycle racing school.

Riders that fit this criterion can register on the Royal Enfield website to express their interest in participating in the series. All eligible participants will be invited to the Kari Motor Speedway for the selection round. Only the top 18 quickest riders are chosen to compete in the GT Cup’s several rounds during the season.

Royal Enfield also offers a one-day training session for chosen riders, in which they will learn about the motorcycle’s attributes as well as on-track etiquette. The Royal Enfield GT Cup in 2021 consisted of four rounds, each with two races.
