Binder and Gardner to Bid Farewell to MotoGP

Binder and Gardner to Bid Farewell to MotoGP

Amid the exciting season of MotoGP 2022, news of some more retirements is making rounds. After some unexpected turn of events such as Suzuki’s decision to exit MotoGP, now rookies Remy Gardner and Darryn Binder have expressed their intentions to leave MotoGP by the next year.

Binder’s stay with RNF was something no one expected for a longer time. But, Remmy Gardner’s announcement came up as unexpected news for everyone. Gardner has performed exceptionally well in the tracks, but KTM earlier this year announced that the contract renewal of Gardner looks like a long shot for them.

One of Gardner or Fernandez would have to resign from the KTM family, and it had long been assumed that Fernandez would be the one doing so. Tech3 formally brought in Pol Espargaro as part of the news that it would become the works Gas Gas MotoGP team next year.

Although Fernandez’s departure was mostly confirmed by KTM at the Red Bull Ring weekend, and he is anticipated to join RNF Aprilia, it has since come to light that KTM is reportedly not interested in keeping Gardner either.

If Oliveria somehow agreed to the GAS GAS deal making the seat open at RNF, Binder thinks that he will not be the first choice in the RNF selection team.

It is curious that both Gardner and Binder have all but ruled themselves out of contention, given at least one of them should theoretically be able to fill Oliveira’s position between Gas Gas and RNF.

Given that Gardner or a Moto2 graduate would be the only other options for the Razlan Razali-controlled team besides Oliveira, Razali has made it clear he doesn’t want to run a rookie in his first year with Aprilia, Binder’s statement suggests that Oliveira may still accept the RNF offer.
