In the constantly evolving space of Formula E, there are new developments every day, around every corner. From a new qualifying format to the potential introduction of an Indian Race in Hyderabad, this Formula E association is all charged up to make the sport a global phenomenon.

Formula E is yet again set to break new ground as Cape Town is set to become the first sub-Saharan African city to host a round of the all-electric FIA World Championship next year during the Season 9 schedule. The 2.8km street circuit is predicted to be the fastest track on the calendar should the FIA green-light it in time for the 2023 season.

In 2021 was Co-Founder and Chief Championship office Alberto Longo was quoted saying
“To start with I’m sure you’re aware we race in the heart of the biggest cities in the world. We want to go to iconic venues that you can identify very quickly in one shot on tv and I think this is one of the main reasons we are in South Africa – because they offer us one of the best, most amazing locations that we will ever do a race at. Having Table Mountain as a backdrop which is a landmark of the city, the sea, the stadium, I think we are going to be able to put a fantastic event up there”.

A dream which they have now made a reality as the track is set to be constructed around some of South Africa’s most iconic landmarks. The construction work on the track is reported to start in April 2022 and will go on all year long right until December.

Hailing the move as a boon to both the economy and the environment, the Premier of the Western Cape Alan Winde said: “This event will also be a perfect opportunity to showcase our destination as an attractive place for tourism and investment, as we focus on growing our economy and creating an enabling environment for the private sector to create jobs.”

Since Joining the grid in 2014, Formula E has engaged a whole new group of fans of cars racing the downtown streets of a number of the world’s most picturesque cities at speeds of up to 280 km/h.

The Formula E action continues next month on the 9th and 10th of April as the race travels to the land that has seen some of the great historic battles, Rome. Last year’s runner up Edoardo Mortara currently holds a slim 5 point lead over current champion, Nyck de Vries.
