Competiton is shaping the future of Royal Enfield, and for Good!

For the longest of times, Royal Enfield was deemed to be the sole champion in the touring sector in India. Over a century old motor company held the major stake in the biking sphere. Whenever someone said Ladakh, we would hear “dug-dug” in the back of our heads.

Royal Enfield as a brand started in 1901. Initial bikes came with a diesel engine and the brand became synonymous with masculinity. If you were a man and did not own a RE bike, you were looked down by fellow bikers. You had to release the pressure, kick with caution and God forbid if you puncture your tyre, good luck with dragging the heavy machine to the mechanic.

Times are changing for good. Finally, many brands are jumping into the touring segment of motorbikes giving tough competition to the Royal Enfield.

Because of the monopoly RE bikes held, the brand refrained from adding modern amenities to their machines. Till a few years back, RE bikes lacked the most common feature, a fuel indicator! But looking up at the competition, Royal Enfield is stepping up their game. Now, most of their bikes come with modern turn-by-turn navigation.

Royal Enfield for the longest time dominated the Indian market, and their monopoly lead them to include modern amenities in their machines. The competitive brands, offering a similar experience to the riders, with a touch of modernity have come as a boon in disguise for RE.

Indian customers now have woken up to the options offered by brands like Bajaj, Yezdi,  Jawa and even KTM. These all brands now have touring specific bikes with all the latest features and state of the art electronic functions embedded.

Royal Enfield indeed has a cult following in India, but even the most loyal of the followers have come to realise that, the brand name is not enough. Their bike must have some of the most important features like ABS, fuel indicator and a digital console.

Now the customers have a wider option of adventure and touring bikes to choose from. Even if they choose RE, they are less likely to miss any of the modern amenities its competition comes equipped with.
