RedBull run riot in Imola! Ferrari fail at home

Redbull ran Riot as they scored their first 1-2 finish since the 2016 Malaysian Grand Prix. The 2022 Formula 1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix proved to be quite an entertaining affair, as Redbull managed to fix its reliability issues this Sunday. The team looked strong in yesterday’s Sprint race and carried their form today. The Ferrari cars however had a disaster weekend in their home race, Carlos Sainz was out by lap 1 and Charles Leclerc blew a potential podium place while chasing Sergio Perez, he went off track and ended the race in p6, much to his disappointment.

Sainz First lap drama continues this week

Both the Ferrari cars got off to a slow start and dropped places immediately. Carlos Sainz has had a weekend to forget after contact at the start of the race dropped him into the gravel, where he got stuck and was forced to retire.

The incident was investigated by race control, but they deemed it as a racing incident. Fernando Alonso also suffered after contact with  Mick Schumacher and lost a piece of bodywork. Sergio Perez managed to get the better of Leclerc off the line and the Redbull drivers looked to get the most of their points to haul.

George Russell and Sebastian Vettel got off to great starts as they managed to break into the top 10.

Rain or no Rain?

Once racing resumed, the cars continue to race on the medium compound tyres, as the weather forecast predicted rain soon.
However, the rain did not come. And Daniel Riccardo, who was running in last, was one of the first brave drivers to change to slicks as the track began to dry out.

And his luck paid off as he set the fastest lap time, which then prompted everyone else to join.

After the round of pits, it looked like an interesting race. Redbull was running a 1-2 and Ferrari was in P3.

An interesting race was going on in the middle order as a line of 5 cars battled intensely for the points. Lewis Hamilton was involved in the race too, and he battled hard to get past Pierre Gasly, but Gasly managed to keep Hamilton behind.

Ferrari push too hard

Charles Leclerc was in pursuit of the maximum points, he came into the pits with 13 laps remaining as he went for the soft tyres, but his ambition cost him dearly, as he spun off after clipping a kerb and ended up into the wall.

He damaged his wing and had to pit once again as he came back out in p 9 but battled intensely to finish in P6. Lando Norris snuck his Mclaren into P3 after running a quiet and solid race.

The Win means that Max Verstappen has now won every race he has finished this season. It also means that he has more career wins than Kimi Raikkonen. A sign of great things to come for the Current World Champion. The win also moves max up to P2 in the world drivers championship as he closes his gap to Leclerc.

Aston Martin Miracles

The Redbull team want the only team who managed to turn things around. Sebastian Vettel and Lance stroll had a brilliant race and defended their positions to bring in the Teams first point of the season. Stroll finished in 10 and Sebastian Vettel in P8.

Valterri Bottas finished in P5 with the Alfa Romeo. He was chasing George Russell until the end when the Mercedes seemed to be losing pace. YukiTsunoda had a great race as well, finishing in P7
