From MotoGP to car racing could be happening for Pedrosa

From MotoGP to car racing could be happening for Pedrosa

The 31-time MotoGP race winner and three-time world champion in the 125cc and 250cc classifications made his auto racing debut in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe series at Imola earlier this month.

Pedrosa’s FFF Racing-run vehicle finished ninth in the Pro-Am class in the first race before finishing fourth in the second.

The Spaniard departed from MotoGP at the conclusion of 2018 and has since worked as a test rider for KTM, appearing in one race.

Pedrosa told Motorsport.com exclusively after his car racing debut at Imola that his plans to expand his four-wheel exploits will be determined by his performance in the next two rounds of the Super Trofeo he will compete in this year, as well as his testing schedule with KTM in 2023.

When asked if he planned to do a full season of car racing in the future, Pedrosa stated, “For sure, my goal now is KTM.” “So that’s my first calendar. I mean, I’ll have to wait and see how I do in the remaining two races, as well as how things progress in the future.

“However, in the perfect circumstance, where I would gain speed and perform slightly better, it would be intriguing to at least try one season and see how things go.

“However, I always check to see if the calendars are in sync.”

Pedrosa made his automobile racing debut on the same weekend as Valentino Rossi, an ex-MotoGP rival and two-wheeled legend, made his debut in the GT World Challenge Europe.

The Spaniard’s pit box was situated in front of Rossi’s, allowing the two to briefly discuss their respective races.

“Actually, the fact that my pit box was in front of his was a coincidence,” Pedrosa explained. “So, during one practise, we got together and talked for two minutes about the experience.”

Pedrosa and Rossi will not be the only ex-MotoGP stars competing on four wheels in 2022; three-time world champion Jorge Lorenzo will compete in the Italian Porsche Carerra Cup as well as the Porsche Supercup.

“It would be at least funny, for sure,” Pedrosa said when asked if he’d like to see his old MotoGP rivals reconnect on four wheels.

“It would be interesting to watch us in a different setting, despite the fact that motorsport is very similar.” But it may be entertaining.”
