Here is our List of Top 3 MotoGP Riders of 2022
This season of MotoGP witnessed a lot of ups and downs. This year indeed was full of drama and excitement for the MotoGP fans. But as we close the mid-year of the motorcycle Grand Prix, here are the top 3 riders of this season, according to us.
Fabio Quartararo:
Quartararo, the current world champion, was anticipated to compete for the title, but the Yamaha rider has been outstanding.
Quartararo has now made his M1 work after every circuit despite it appearing to have more flaws than the Ducati and Aprilia. After a rough start in Qatar (finished ninth), while Argentina and America were also difficult rounds, Quartararo made his M1 work after every track.
Since no other Yamaha rider has achieved a top-five finish in 2022, let alone a podium, win, or pole position, it is safe to say that Quartararo has been the difference so far.
Espargaro and, to a lesser extent, Bagnaia have gained momentum in the title race as a result of the first mistake at Assen, but if Quartararo returns to his usual rock-solid form once MotoGP competition resumes, it will be very challenging for his competitors to unseat him.
Enea Bastianini
As a standout rookie in 2021, Bastianini had the kind of talent that made many people anticipate a leap in year two.
However, Bastianini has already outperformed even the most optimistic predictions this season.
The former Moto2 rider appeared to be a strong title favourite early on. He won three races, matching the number of victories of Quartararo and Bagnaia, two more than Espargaro.
Although accidents have hampered that pace, Bastianini has nonetheless been among the top riders this year.
Given that Bastianini is riding the older GP21 bike, which now seems to be performing less well than the newer GP22 package, there is reason to believe that recent crashes have simply been the result of pushing too hard to perform well – Bastianini is vying to join Bagnaia in the factory team next season.
Aleix Espargaro
However, it was obvious that the Spaniard had a wonderful opportunity to rectify that, and he lost no time in doing so. Of the current riders, Espargaro headed into 2022 with the most MotoGP outings without a win.
The Aprilia rider has been nothing short of amazing throughout the first half of 2022. He has more top-five finishes than any other rider and five podium finishes, which includes his outstanding victory in Argentina after defeating Jorge Martin. The best way to define Espargaro’s 12th MotoGP season is as a career year.
Espargaro has not only been our team’s rider of the year thus far, but in our opinion, he also turned in the best Grand Prix performance.
The Aprilia rider regained his composure to make move after overtake, including a dramatic double pass on Jack Miller and Brad Binder on the final lap, after being struck by Quartararo in Assen, which caused Espargaro to skid into the gravel before rejoining in 15th.
Espargaro moved up to fourth place once more and is currently only one victory behind Quartararo in the standings.
