Hero Motocorp: One of the few Indian Brands in International Motocross Sphere

Hero Motocorp is probably the only Indian brand that is pro-active in the international Motocross sphere.

India is one of the lucky countries, having favourable geographical conditions for nurturing Motorcross. India does not lack behind in talent as well. With population, this large coupled with Motorcross favourable terrain, India can become a golden bird for Motorsports enthusiasts.

Hero Motocorp actively participates in the world’s toughest rally, Dakar Rally. Hero has close to Dakar spec bike on offer for people who want to have a subtle taste of the rally but on roads. A few years ago, Hero came up with its Impulse series, which targeted Indian Motorcross enthusiasts. The series could have done wonders in the Indian market, but the timing wasn’t just right. At the time Hero released its Impulse bike series, there were almost non-existent Motorcross enthusiasts in India. Hence, the bike series flopped.

A few years fast-forward, Hero released Xpulse 200 series. It was a take on its failed Impulse series, but it was a better bike in all aspects. It had a 200cc motor which churned out enough power for the dirt tracks. It also had all the modern amenities a bike needed, like an all-LED setup, GPS, single-channel ABS and such.

Xpulse 200 was a better choice for people who wanted to take on the Moto-Adventure sports, as it was an economical option over other bikes in the market. However, the 1st generation of Xpulse lacked refinement and had some engine-related issues.

A few months ago, Hero released an all-new Xpulse 200 with a 4-valve engine. The new variant though a bit more pricey than its predecessor has addressed every issue customers had with the previous generation Xpulse.

Hero is not only releasing bikes for the customers but also arranging events, specific to dirt-biking. The pro-active approach of Hero, in promoting Motorcross has resulted in youth getting actively participating in adventure sports.

Well, Hero is truly striving towards establishing India in the motocross sphere. Now what India needs, is support from the Government in recognising Motorsports as a legit form of sports, rather than keeping it under the entertainment ambit.
