Hydrogen Powered Car to Make a Debut at WRC Ypres Rally

Hydrogen is the new gen fuel. Though its usage as fuel was discovered a long time ago, it is recent that it is getting its due recognition. Now, WRC has decided to use Hydrogen-powered vehicles in its rallies, to make WRC a more eco-friendly yet powerful event!

Juha Kankkunen, a four-time WRC winner will be driving hydrogen-powered Toyota GR Yaris in stages at next week’s WRC Ypres Rally.

The recently created GR Yaris H2 car, an experimental concept that uses hydrogen to feed a combustion engine based on the same turbo-charged block used in the normal production car, will make its public premiere at this event.

It will be regarded as a test vehicle and will go first in the stages it will compete.

The test drive comes after the 63-year-old Finn revealed earlier this year that he had plans to test the most recent version of the hybrid GR Yaris Rally1 that is presently engaged in the WRC.

Toyota has played a significant role in the testing of hydrogen-powered race vehicles. The GR Corolla H2, which was most recently raced in the Fuji 24 Hours in June, served as the basis for the powerplant in the new GR Yaris H2.
