Is Hyundai Bidding Goodbye to WRC?
Due to Hyundai’s tardy adherence to the new regulations, which slowed down the creation of its brand-new i20 N, the WRC has had a difficult start for the South Korean automaker.
Since the Hyundai team’s i20 N initially surfaced in December of last year, a month before the start of the new season, it has been playing catch-up. Hyundai’s vehicle has been without direction since the flamboyant team principal of six years, Andrea Adamo, left.
Powertrain Manager Julien Moncet serves as the team’s head as the deputy team director until a team principal is named.
The team’s supply lines have been put under further stress as a result of this circumstance, which has come on top of worldwide raw material scarcity and rising prices.
Tanak’s victory in Sardinia was one of Hyundai’s glimmers of speed this year, but otherwise, its season has been beset by maintenance concerns or a lack of pure speed as shown in Estonia. On home turf last weekend, Tanak came in almost two minutes behind Toyota’s Kalle Rovanpera, who won the rally.
In the post-Rally Estonia press conference, Tanak dispelled rumours that the 2019 and 2020 manufacturers’ champions would be considering leaving the WRC due to Hyundai’s difficulties.
However, Tanak has shot down the rumours about Hyundai quitting WRC in the next season. According to him, there are some fundamental changes needed in the team but there are no plans of quitting the rally.
