Isle of Man TT Race Claims Yet Another Life

On Monday, a third life was lost at the 2022 Isle of Man TT races when Northern Irish rider Davy Morgan was killed in an accident during the event’s inaugural Supersport race.

The 52-year-old veteran, who was competing in his 80th TT since his debut in 2002, died in a catastrophic accident on the third and final circuit of the mountain segment of the course, according to organisers.

Organisers said, ” aid it was “with a heavy heart” that they confirmed Morgan’s death. “The Isle of Man TT Races pass on their deepest sympathy to Davy’s partner Trudy, his family, loved ones, and friends.”

Morgan spent approximately 30 years in racing paddocks in Ireland, the Isle of Man, and at the Macau Grand Prix. In 2005, he won a 250cc race at the North West 200, and in 2012 and 2017, he won two more in the same class at the Ulster Grand Prix.

Last Saturday, French sidecar passenger Olivier Lavorel, 35, died, while Mark Purslow, 29, a British Supersport rider, died on Wednesday. Purslow was killed in a TT qualifying accident following an accident at Ballagarey.

Lavorel was taking part in the TT races for the first time as a passenger to his colleague César Chanel, who was taken to a Liverpool hospital in a severe condition following the collision at Ago’s Leap.

Since 1907, races have been held around the island in the Irish Sea, and they are among the most dangerous in racing. The TT races, Manx Grand Prix, and Classic TT staged on the island’s public roads have resulted in 263 fatalities so far.

The TT races are back this year following a two-year hiatus caused by the Covid-19 outbreak, the event’s longest hiatus since World War II.
