Jehan Daruvala set the second-fastest time as the Formula 2 testing got underway at Bahrain. The Indian piloted his PREMA Racing machine to the second-fastest time of the day, only behind the Hitech Racing car of Liam Lawson. Daruvala blazed to a time of 1:42.074 which couldn’t match the 1:41.623 by Liam.
Over the course of the two-day test, Daruvala racked up an impressive 150+ laps as he got valuable testing time in the seat of his car. The third day of testing had to be abandoned due to a very sudden and violent sandstorm that engulfed the circuit.
Speaking to the press, Druvala said “We experienced three very productive days of testing. Our pace on both long runs and qualifying simulations has been encouraging while reliability has also been strong allowing us to chalk up plenty of mileage. There are a lot of positives to take from the test and most importantly I feel comfortable in the car and ready for the battle on our hands.”
The test results have proved that the young Indian driver indeed made a good step by rejoining his old racing team, PREMA Racing. A team with who he finished a career-best of 3rd in the 2019 F3 championship. When asked about his decision to rejoin the team earlier in the year, This is what he had to say, “PREMA have been very successful in every category they’ve participated in, so I’m definitely excited and looking forward to what this year brings. The first time I returned was when I went to the team’s garage for post-season testing in Abu Dhabi. It was like I’d never left. We share a great relationship and we got to work straight away.”
Since his entry into F3 in 2017, Jehan Daruvala has continuously made every Indian feel like a proud dad. His impact was never instant, but in spite of all things thrown his way, he continues to mature and develop more confidence. And the results speak for themselves. From finishing the season in 12th in 2020, he improved on it the following year and finished a healthy 7th with his Previous Team, Carlin.
His move to PREMA Racing is seen as on with the potential to launch his career even higher as the team are the reigning F2 champions with the previous champions being Mick Schumacher and Oscar Piastri.
Daruvala has his eyes firmly on the prestigious F2 championship while also aiming for that Golden F1 seat. Making him only the third Indian Driver to race in F1. The Formula 2 season gets underway in Bahrain with practice and qualifying on March 18, 2022.
