Jehan Daruvala’s Hopes for F2 Stalls After Electrical Failure

Jehan Daruvala’s Hopes for F2 Stalls After Electrical Failure

Jehan Daruvala of India was left cursing his bad luck after an electrical issue prevented him from competing in Sunday’s Formula 2 main race in Spain. The Red Bull-backed driver, who qualified fourth on the grid following a solid qualifying performance on Friday, had elected to start the race on the tougher prime tyres rather than the option plan of running a long first stint before pitting. With the majority of his competitors beginning on the less durable soft tyres, the Prema Racing driver’s move would have paid off in the final stages of the race, putting him in contention for the win.

Jehan said, “This is an extremely disappointing result, all the more so given the pace we’ve shown all weekend. I’m sure we could have fought for the win so it’s a shame we couldn’t even let our strategy play out. Luck just doesn’t seem to be going our way with the safety car last time in Imola and now the electrical issue here. But that’s just part of motorsport. I know I have the speed and if we continue in this manner I’m pretty sure things will go our way soon.”

Despite his bad outcome on Sunday, Jehan is not going home empty-handed from the Spanish round. He battled his way up from the seventh place in Saturday’s Sprint race, where he had begun under the championship’s reverse grid regulations.

He is still in third place in the overall drivers’ standings. He’ll now concentrate on Monaco, which takes place the following weekend as part of a back-to-back.
