Ken Block Totals his i20 WRC
Ken Block has been one of the most influential rally car drivers in the United States for over two decades. Block, a jack of all crafts, has aided in the advancement of motorsports in the United States, introducing generations of fans to the frenzy of rally car racing. Even if his success has mostly been on a local level, his consistency in scoring points and winning stages is one of the key reasons he can still compete at such a high level in the World Rally Car championship. However, success would not have been possible if Block had not established Hoonigan in 2010. Because when you assist with the development of one of America’s largest car enthusiast groups, you have access to resources and relationships.
Block just landed one of the most successful WRC vehicles in the previous five years, the Hyundai i20 WRC, thanks to a contract he struck. Unfortunately, Block’s automobile would be totalled less than 36 hours after it arrived, as a consequence of a collision with a wild deer.
Ken finds himself soaring into the last stage with roughly three miles to go before the local fauna wreck his hopes for an eighth triumph at the 100 Acre Wood Rally in Salem, Missouri, which he had won seven times.
Ken felt confident enough to put the WRC vehicle through its paces just days after it arrived from the factory, despite barely 15 miles of testing. However, a driver with Block’s talent and the Manufacturer’s Cup-winning vehicle for 2019 and 2020 should feel completely at home in the cockpit.
Drivers will get extra points based on their finish over the final stretch, known as the “power stage.” Block and his co-driver were in first place after winning 8 of the 22 stages. With the second-place vehicle hovering dangerously close, Block intended to push the WRC car to its limits to secure the victory.
According to Block, he was completely committed to a slide when he observed a family of deer racing through the rally course’s barred gates. Block’s eyes widen for a single second as he maintains his cool after colliding with the animal at great speed. Block and his co-driver escaped injury in the accident, which is more than we can say for the i20, which had to limp home without the ability to shift gears.
Block, on the other hand, would not go home empty-handed, bringing home the silver hardware.
