Laverty Bids Goodbye to WSBK
One of the best WSBK riders, Laverty has decided to bid goodbye to his golden racing career at WSBK. So far, the Irish rider has managed to bag 13 wins and 35 podiums.
Laverty has been a part of BMW WSBK since 2020.
After two seasons of competing in World Supersport on Honda equipment and finishing in second place, Laverty switched to the WSBK in 2011 with the works Yamaha squad.
He finished fourth in the standings that year after earning his first victories at Monza, but after Yamaha withdrew from the competition at the end of the year, he joined Aprilia as Max Biaggi’s partner in 2012.
After racing for different teams, Laverty joined BMW in 2020, winning the pole in Magny-Cours, but a poor run of form caused Michael van der Mark to take his place the next year.
Laverty chose to race for the satellite RC Squadra Corse team instead, but due to financial difficulties, he missed most of the season. Late in the season, however, he returned to the works squad after Sykes was hurt.
Prior to this weekend’s Most round, Laverty, who had battled to keep up with teammate Baz since missing the Assen round due to injury, was ranked 15th in the riders’ standings with a best finish of 10th at Aragon.
