Mahindra Brings Lucas to Develop Formula E Gen 3 Cars

Mahindra Brings Lucas to Develop Formula E Gen 3 Cars

India is striving hard to get recognised on the world motorsport map. And it is a good sign for all the Indian motorheads. After JK Tyre, it is now Mahindra which is striving to give India a boost in the automobile racing sector. Mahindra has recently joined its ties with the former Formula E champion Lucas di Grassi. Lucas will be racing alongside Oliver Rowland.

Alexander Sims, who has competed in Formula E for four seasons, will be replaced by him because he wants to concentrate on his career in endurance racing. Oliver Rowland will continue to work with the group.

Mahindra will reap the benefit of the experience Lucas holds in Formula E. He recently equalled Sebastien Buemi’s record of 13 victories and now has a record of 38 podium finishes after winning the 2022 London E-Prix. Later this weekend in Seoul, the 38-year-old will also make his 100th E-Prix start.

Season 9 in 2023, will mark the start of the new-gen Formula E. Before it kicks off, both Lucas and Rowland will be testing Mahindra’s Formula E Gen 3 testing program. Mahindra’s Gen 3 car is cited as the fastest yet most sustainable Formula E car to date.

Mahindra Racing has had a terrible year; the Indian team is currently in ninth place with only 25 points. This, along with the new “merit-based” qualifying procedure, is what Gill has mostly attributed to the fact that the team was compelled by the rules to continue using effectively the same car as last season. But with the introduction of the brand-new Gen3 cars, next year will essentially be a clean slate.

Abt Sportsline is the first racing team owned by a customer of Mahindra Racing, the company recently revealed. As part of the agreement, Mahindra will provide Abt with its ZF-developed powertrains when the team rejoins Formula E in 2023 following a year away. Additionally, the two parties are working together on software development.

Di Grassi, of course, has a close relationship with Abt because he won 12 of his 13 races and the championship with the team (which partnered with Audi back then).
