Michelin to Roll Out New Set of Tyres this Year!
Normally when we think about MotoGP, it is about high-speed bikes and superstar racers. Little do we consider one of the driving forces behind these capable bikes, the tyres. And helping MotoGP with being on track is a famous tyre brand, Michelin.
Michelin is all set to roll out its fresh set of front tyres by the end of this year. Michelin is aiming at improving the overall control of the bike and kick out the problem with the front tyre of MotoGP bikes.
The fresh set of tyres will be rolled out in October and Michelin is expecting that racing riders will test their new design at the one-day Valencia test that comes after the championship’s final round in November.
One of the main reasons for the delay in the launch of a new set of tyres is the introduction of sprint races in MotoGP. The premier motorcycle competition already has a lot on its plate and has to deal with the issues of riders being dissatisfied with the introduction of the Sprint race format. With a lot to deal with, introducing new tyres can add to the weight of the problem MotoGP is already facing.
Up until 2019, this was a major selling point of MotoGP. Since then, however, things have turned around, and races no longer frequently come down to the final lap, as they did when Fabio Quartararo and Andrea Dovizioso were regularly able to spar with Marc Marquez.
Of course, this does not imply that Michelin is at fault. Instead, it’s a direct result of how MotoGP development has changed drastically in recent years, perhaps for the first time, moving away from the idea of designing a bike for control tyres and toward the goal of trying to make the tyre function on whatever Frankenstein’s monster the engineers come up with.
