New Revenue initiatives coming in for F2 likely by 2024

New Revenue initiatives coming in for F2 likely by 2024

If economic conditions are favourable, the Formula 2 championship organisers intend to launch a new package for the 2024 season.

The Dallara-supplied F2/18 chassis, powered by a Mecachrome turbo V6 engine, is in its fifth season, however minor changes have been made since then, most notably the introduction of 18-inch Pirelli tyres in 2020.

George Russell and Mick Schumacher, both current Formula One drivers, won championships in the F2/18, which replaced the GP2/11, which had been in use for seven years.

Formula 2 had originally decided to maintain the F2/18 for its second three-year cycle, from 2021 to 2023, but CEO Bruno Michel is optimistic that a replacement will be available in 2024.

“The overall concept is that if the economic situation permits, we will introduce a new F2 car in 2024 and a new F3 car in 2025,” Michel stated.

“We work in three-year cycles, but we occasionally keep the car for six years because we don’t want to put the teams under financial strain with new materials and spare components.”

“The major, big difficulty we have in F2 and F3 is balancing technology with prices, and that’s something we’ll always have.”
