Oman to be the Host of Motocross World Championship 2022
Oman will host the FIM MXGP World Championship for Motocross in September, according to the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). Oman is the only GCC country on the FIM MXGP 2022 calendar to host the season’s final event.
The FIM has sanctioned the Oman MXGP World Championship, which will be organised by Trade8 International in Oman in collaboration with the Oman Automobile Association.
On September 9-10, the FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship, a family-friendly event, will be held in Mussanah, with qualifying on Friday and finals on Saturday.
Around 8,000 people are scheduled to attend, with projected revenue of more than RO2 million. ‘This world-class event will have a great influence on tourism and investment promotion in addition to sports.’ Without a doubt, it will help promote Oman onto the international scene, which will require assistance from government agencies, and national and private corporations as stakeholders/sponsors, as this is a national event. The event is being supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth,’ according to a press statement.
In terms of reputation and global recognition, the Motocross World Championship is on par with Formula 1 and MotoGP.
The organisers said, “This is a unique opportunity to showcase the sultanate to younger tourists and sports enthusiasts all over the world, knowing that the potential viewership is 1.5bn people internationally across 50+ channels such as Eurosport, beIN, Fox Sports, etc.”
During the live broadcast, the sultanate will also be marketed through a 1-minute postcard film showing the country as a cultural, tourism, and investment destination.
In 2023, Oman will also appear in the MXGP PlayStation/XBOX game, which sells an average of 2 million copies every year.
