REM Motocross: Farewell to Frank and Myra

REM Motocross: Farewell to Frank and Myra

After 35 years of operating events at Carlsbad and Glen Helen, REM Motocross will be commemorating Frank and Myra Thomason’s farewell race as REM organisers this Saturday.

In 1986, REM was founded by a group of Motocross racers to keep Carlsbad Raceway operating for another year. REM was successful in that attempt, and after relocating to Glen Helen Raceway and operating 40 events each year for the past 30 years.

REM will continue to compete in Glen Helen with the majority of the same team, but Frank and Myra will take a well-deserved sabbatical after three decades of running the world’s top events. They’ve hosted 1200 races, and believe it or not, many REM regulars have attended every one of them. For its racers, many of whom hail from the Carlsbad Raceway, REM has been a fun and unique event.

Riders will not be required to wear transponders on their bikes this Saturday in a throwback—REM wants to go old school. Just make sure your bike’s numbers are legible on all three sides. On April 2nd, April 30th, May 7th, May 14th, May 28th, June 25th, July 23rd, July 30th, August 13th, August 20th, and August 27th, REM will race (with more races to be announced later).

There’s no denying that REM is the “World’s Biggest Little Race.” What other local event has people waiting for the weekly race update from France, England, and Holland? Over the years, REM has evolved into a racing destination for riders from all over the world, as well as a haven for those seeking to return to the sport’s roots.
