Snow and Cold comes as a hurdle for IndyCar Tests at IMS
Pertaining cold and snow have projected a roadblock for IndyCar testings at IMS.
Only Andretti Autosport-Honda, Meyer Shank Racing-Honda, and Juncos Hollinger Racing-Chevrolet were confident of getting in some track time over the 2.439-mile 14-turn road circuit from a starting field of 20 cars. Others withdrew ahead of time due to ominous weather projections, and when yesterday’s action was cancelled due to inclement weather, Arrow McLaren SP-Chevrolet did as well.
Snow fell overnight in Speedway, Indiana, and while it was too warm to settle, the temperature in the area is still about 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The combined track and ambient temperatures must total up to 100 for IndyCar’s only tyre supplier, Firestone, to give the green light to any track action, which is not likely today.
Alexander Rossi, Colton Herta, Romain Grosjean, and Devlin DeFrancesco of Andretti Autosport had always planned to test at Barber Motorsports Park on Monday before travelling west for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Alex Palou, Scott Dixon, Marcus Ericsson, and Jimmie Johnson of Chip Ganassi Racing-Honda will also be testing there, as will Ed Carpenter Racing-Chevy (Rinus VeeKay and Conor Daly).
Meyer Shank Racing and Juncos will join the Barber line-up to test over the 16-turn 2.366-mile road track that will host IndyCar’s fourth round this year, according to Motorsport.com.
