Leclerc on Pole, Verstappen suffers Engine problems, Alonso out in Q1- Spanish GP

The sun was out and the scene was set for the Formula 1 2022 Spanish GP qualification

Charles Leclerc finished on Pole as the Ferrari driver looks extremely confident in his car.
Max Verstappen suffered engine problems on his final run but he managed a respectable P2. Carlos Sainz finished his home qualification session in P3 at the Formula 1 Spanish GP.

Following his pole position, an ecstatic Leclerc said: “I made a mistake early in Q3 and I only had one lap, but it went extremely well and I made it stick. The car was amazing”

This is true, prior to his push lap he spun his car around in the tricky section of the track. however, he managed to avoid contact with George Russell and take his car to the pits. He then came out of the pits and set a brilliant pole lap.

In the history of the track, 80% of the time the winners have started out in the front row, which will be great news for Max and Charles Leclerc. This pole position means that this is the first time in 9 years that a Mercedes car is NOT the car on the pole.

Mercedes Pace

The Mercedes cars showed impressive pace as they managed to qualify in P 4 and P6, with George Russell managing to set a faster time than lewis hamilton once again. Red bull driver Sergio Perez sits in 5th position

Valterri Bottas sat in P 7. The HAAS team managed to slip both cars into Q3 and they impressed! Rookie Mick Schumacher will start 10th tomorrow while Veteran Magnussen will start from P8. This is impressive considering that the cars do not have any upgrades this weekend and all the other cars do have.

Both of the Alpha Tauri cars were knocked out along with Zhou and Esteban Ocon.
Lando Norris seemed to have a great lap to take him to the next session, but the stewards noticed that his car exceeded the track limits, so his time was deleted and he was knocked out.

Aston Martin and Alonso woes

It was a tough weekend for Aston Martin, and Williams, who had both their cars in the bottom five. Much to the dismay of the Spanish fans, Fernando Alonso was knocked out in q1. There was an incident where Alonso believed that Norris was impeding him. The stewards had a look and said that there was no action necessary.

Another Notable feature from the qualification was that Charles Leclerc received the pole position award from The WRC Rally Legend, Carlos Sainz Senior.
IF the name sounds familiar its because he’s the father of Carlos SainzJr, Who is the teammate of Charles Leclerc.
