Tanak gets Penalised Again!

After placing third in his home WRC event, the Hyundai driver Tanak was penalised for violating sports rules with a €4000 fine, of which €3000 is suspended. When standing on the podium and at the post-event news conference, drivers must wear a cap with the Pirelli logo. Tanak was determined to have broken the rules by not donning the cap throughout the rally’s final podium in Tartu, the post-event press conference, and the podium following the rally’s final power stage.

This punishment came after a difficult home rally for four-time Rally Estonia champion Tanak, who was unable to keep up with the Toyotas driven by rally winners Kalle Rovanpera and Elfyn Evans. Rovanpera finished ahead of Tanak by 1m55.7s.

Before being refuted by video and photographic evidence, Tanak originally justified his behaviour during a stewards hearing.
