The road from India to future in MotoGP with MiniGP series 2022

The MiniGP series is a FIM-sanctioned racing league for riders aged 10 to 14 years old that takes place in a number of nations across the world. The top two riders from each national series are flown to Valencia for the MiniGP World Final, where they will vie for international glory against one another. With the global final taking place the day before the MotoGP season finale weekend, the young riders will be scrutinised by some of the most powerful and prominent people in the world.

India, along with other newcomers such as Australia, Austria, Indonesia, Japan, and Qatar, will compete in the MiniGP series this year. MiniGP championships were contested in ten countries last year, and all of them will continue to conduct the series in 2022.

The Indian leg of the championship will consist of five races held at Meco Kartopia in Bengaluru and the Chicane karting circuit in Hyderabad. The competition will begin on July 9 in Bengaluru with a selection round. The top 15 riders from the qualifying round will compete in the championship, with two reserve riders stepping in if one of the top 15 is unable to compete.

For all five rounds, the selected riders will be given with bikes, riding gear, and lodging. The India series’ final round will be held in September, following which the top two finishers will be flown to Italy (together with one parent) for training before proceeding to the Valencia final in November.

The young prospects ride the same motorcycle all over the world: an Ohvale GP-0 160 race bike, which is modest in stature but has a level of specification comparable to most full-size race bikes. Fully adjustable suspension on both ends, a four-piston monobloc brake calliper, and Pirelli racing slicks are among the highlights. Ohvales are also the preferred training tool for riders such as Valentino Rossi and Fabio Quartararo, so don’t dismiss them as toys. When you consider that the bikes only weigh roughly 65kg, the power output is in the 15hp range, which is enough.
