Toyota to give Hyundai a Run for their Money
The Japanese company Toyota has developed a new GT Yaris with a hybrid engine, which has won four out of the first six races thanks to championship leader Kalle Rovanpera.
Toyota has only finished outside of the top three once all season, in Sardinia, but in the subsequent event at the Safari Rally Kenya last month, the squad demonstrated its speed and unfailing dependability by finishing 1-2-3-4, the first for the brand since the 1993 Safari Rally.
Toyota has implemented a planned mid-season improvement package to tackle a string of quick gravel rallies that start in Estonia this weekend, despite being 62 points ahead of competitor Hyundai Motorsport.
The enhanced engine, according to Toyota’s technology director Tom Fowler, is a reaction to Hyundai’s i20 N, which is rumoured to be the Rally1 vehicle with the highest peak speed.
