Virtual and On-Track Events’ Formula Bharat Competition Winners Announced
The ultimate champions of the 2021-2022 Formula Bharat competition were GTU Motorsports and Team Kratos Racing. After last year’s exclusively online event, this year’s edition took a hybrid approach, featuring both virtual and on-track competitions at Coimbatore’s Kari Motor Speedway.
Formula Bharat is a student engineering design competition in which university and college students from all across India compete to design and build a life-size Formula One-style car. The teams are judged on their engineering design, total cost, marketability, and vehicle dynamic performance.
Formula Bharat may be viewed as a testing ground for the future of racing. The competition’s major purpose is to “help students to obtain real experience while applying engineering ideas learned in class.” To fund the project, all participating teams must build their automobiles from the ground up and seek sponsorship and contributions. As a result, students receive essential management and collaboration experience.
Thirty-three combustion and twelve electric teams competed online, while fifteen combustion and thirteen electric teams competed on-site. All static activities, such as Business Plan, Cost and Manufacturing, and Engineering Design, were totally conducted online. The track was then used for dynamic events such as skidpad, acceleration, endurance testing, and autocross.
The squad from Gujarat Technological University – GTU Motorsports – won the combustion category after four days at the Kari Motor Speedway. Meanwhile, the electric category was won by Team Kratos Racing from Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering.
The pre-registration period for next year’s tournament begins on May 9, and anyone interested may find all of the Formula Bharat registration details here.
Also coming up in 2022 is the FSEV Concept Challenge. Participants must conceptualise and construct a Formula Student Electric Vehicle Powertrain Package that satisfies the Formula Bharat 2023 technical criteria.
