Who are Andretti and will they join F1

Since it’s inception, Formula 1 has seen manufacturers from all over the world battle it out for the prize of being the World champion. This season contains powerhouse names like Mercedes, Ferrari, Aston Martin and Mclaren who are giving it all for the top prize. However we often forget that teams like MAserati, BMW Sauber and even Porsche once competed in this high stakes sport.  With the rising popularity of the sport in recent years, it wont be long before we see a new player tear up the tracks, and that might just be closer than you think.

The new player goes by the name Andretti. An American company that isnt at all new to racing.
Mario Andretti raced in Formula 1 in the 60s and 70’s and even clinched a World championship with Lotus in 1978. However Formula 1 was not his only championship win. He also won the Indy 500 4 Times!
His son Michael Andretti too raced in Formula 1 alongside the great Aryton Senna. Michael’s son Marco too drives comepetetively in the Indycar Championship.
Three generations fo racing did have a lasting impact on the Andretti family and in 2003 Michael set up Andretti Autosports. From humble beginnings, the company now boasts of multiple drivers across multiple disciplines, racing at the highest level. The team competes in the  IndyCar Series, Indy Lights, Indy Pro 2000, and even Formula E.

So for a company like this with rich history and racing pedigree, It should be a piece of caketo join F1.
Dont we all wish life was easier.

Originally Andretti set out to take over Alfa Romeo but the parties couldnt come to common ground and the deal fell apart. Andretti said the situation was hard to accept.”That was a joke,” he said. “We were there. It was done. We had a day set up to sign it, and literally two days before, they changed the terms.They basically still wanted to keep control. I was like, ‘No, they can’t keep control.’ They wanted veto rights on everything all of a sudden. It was horrible.

We wasted so much time. If we didn’t do that, we’d have been so much further ahead on everything else.”

Taking to twitter, World Champion Mario Andretti wrote “Michael has applied to the FIA to field a new F1 team starting in 2024,His entry, Andretti Global, has the resources and checks every box. He is awaiting the FIA’s determination.”
Andretti also pointed out that by having an american team, the doors open to new sponsors who see the scale of F1;

Following his comments, Mercedes and Redbull have both stated that teams should Join F1 only if they can provide to the series. However MClaren’s Zak Brown stated

“I think the teams that may not support another team are being short-sighted.Are we trying to grow the sport? Or are we doing what racing teams have a bad tendency to do, which is think about today and not the future. His father’s a World Champion, he’s driven in F1 and he’s got multiple racing teams”.

With the FIA currently not giving a clear answer to whether the team will be able to take part in from the 2024 season and the Andretti team requesting for clarity on the season It’s only a matter of time until we hear something concrete.
