WRC comes back to Mexico!

WRC comes back to Mexico!

WRC is coming again, according to the event’s organisers RallyMex, albeit neither a date nor the duration of the contract for the following year’s rally has been disclosed.

The last time the WRC visited Mexico was in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out and prompted organisers to cancel the rally’s final leg so that participants could return home as international crossings started to close to lower infection rates.

The competition served as the final WRC round before a lengthy break that prompted the category to continue its schedule with rallies across Europe, starting with Rally Estonia in September.

Although there was a chance to revisit South America this year, travel expenses prohibited the WRC from holding races in Mexico and Argentina.

The WRC will, however, return to the continent next year according to today’s news, with the competition taking place in Guanajuato. The Guanajuato municipal government will once more sponsor the tournament.

Although the exact date of the calendar round has not yet been determined, all indications are that it will take place in March, as has been customary, to escape the warmest days and the rainiest months that follow.

Juan Suberville, the president of Rally Mexico, said during the conference that work to establish a new deal was done into 2021.

The WRC plans to run a 14-round schedule in 2023, with eight European rounds and six flyaway competitions.

One of the long-distance events will be the Safari Rally Kenya, which has already signed a contract through 2026. This has already been verified.

Although a formal request has not yet been made to the WRC, it is believed that a return to Germany for the first time since 2019 might be an option for Europe.
