Zac Brown critizes Redbull Drivers

CEO of Mclaren ,Zak Brown believes Red Bull Racing have ‘ruined’ a couple of Formula 1 drivers who drove their cars.

Quoted by The Race, he said “I think they’ve ruined a few that I think had it, but weren’t given enough opportunity.”

The Red Bull Junior Team was formed in 2001 with the aim of developing racing talent from a young age. They offered monetary funding and factory support for the drivers who showed the most promise. The first breakthrough was In 2004 when Christian Klien became the first primary Red Bull Junior to race in Formula One, while in 2008, Sebastian Vettel became the first person from the Redbull Academy to win a Formula One Grand Prix, the Italian Grand Prix, while racing for the Redbull sister team, Toro Rosso.

Since its inception, they have consistently produced drivers who are winners. The likes of Sebastian Vettel, Max Verstappen and even Daniel Ricciardo speak volumes about what the Program has achieved.

However in the past few years, there have been cries against Redbull for being disrespectful to their drivers and as Zak Brown said, ‘Brutal’.

There have been times where this has looked to be true. Case in point, Redbull’s Christian Horner publicly said that the team got ‘Tsunoda’d’ during their final quali runs at the Mexican GP. It could be argued that even the treatment of Pierre Gasly and preferring Perez over the French driver who has had an outstanding season in not the best car.

However, when the dust settles and you start to look at what the team has managed to achieve, it truly is breathtaking.

Sebastian Vettel went on to become the youngest to win a single, double, triple and a quadruple world championship. He also gave the team 4 consecutive Constructors championships.

At 17 years and 166 days, Max Verstappen became the youngest ever F1 driver in history. He also went on to beat a legend of the sport, Sir Lewis Hamilton last season to clinch his maiden title. In an era where the Mercedes Team absolutely dominated the sport, Max dug deep and held his ground.

Zak Brown went on to say “ “But they won the championship last year, we didn’t, so I can’t say they don’t know what they’re doing.”

We often forget that Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsport. A sport where every Millisecond, every gram, every inch matters. It’s not the Sunday league where anyone can turn up and get results. Through years of evolution the cars, the drivers and the teams all aim to be the greatest in the world.

In a world of 7.75 Billion people ( 775,00,00,000 people), only 20 will ever be racing at an f1 circuit on any given Sunday, which really helps us to put into perspective how tough a job it is to drive in F1.

So yes, While other teams will poke fingers at the Redbull driver’s treatment, it should also be remembered that it’s not just any car and any race, it’s for F1, the best of the best.
