Enea Bastianini : The Win or Crash Relationship
Enea Bastianini or ‘La Bestia’ has a strange relationship with crashes and wins. This year, Bastianini has been an important part of MotoGP, winning 3 races, but he seems to have a knack for crashing his bike. Out of the 7 races, he has managed to wreck his bike 4 times and won the rest 3.
Born on 30 December 1997, Bastianini always had a knack for riding motorbikes. Bestianini claimed his first MotoGP victory this year in Qatar and became a championship leader.
All this win, yet it is confusing how such a talented racer manages to crash his bike most of the time and manages to win the race if he does not wreck his bike!
Even Miller was fascinated by the way Bastianini rides his bike. His riding technique is rather unique. He sits rather in the centre of the bike and lets the bike do all the talking. Also since he has a rather nimble physical structure, he is usually faster than others in the competition. Also unlike other professional racers, Bastianini does not uses his rear to turn the bike, instead, he puts the throttle down. Even the best of the racers have not been able to do this trick!
While using the rear to turn the bike might seem to be an efficient way to save the tyre, it does make the rider slower on the corners, giving an advantage to the competitors.
This is where his rather unique riding style turns out to be a dampening factor as well. Being light-weight does support the rider but it also makes the bike less controllable. See, when you have some weight on the machine, it makes it easier for you to manoeuvre the bike at high speeds and to take on the corners with agility and confidence.
Another reason for his abrupt crashes might be his aggression during the race. I get it, everyone competing has a goal of reaching the podium, but sometimes all it needs is a calm head and control of the throttle. Bastianini seems to forget this most of the time. He gets so aggressive at times while riding, that he makes controlling the bike difficult for himself, and crashes it!
Whatever the case may be, I am simply implying that Bastianini is an excellent rider. But well, given his certain tactics, he disappoints his fans. But, well the road to improvement never runs out!
